What this is
KYU CONNECT is the official information and emergency alert network for Kyambogo University. It brings exam schedules, timetable changes, tuition deadlines, events, internships, academic announcements and emergency alerts into a single feed that students and staff actually read.
Emergency alerts are visible to everyone without logging in. Once you have an account you control exactly which topics you follow and whether you receive them in-app, by email or by SMS.
How it works
Verification badges
A badge next to an account name means an administrator has confirmed that account represents a genuine university office, department or staff member. Badges are optional and don't restrict what anyone can post — they exist so you can quickly tell an official notice from an ordinary one.
How emergency alerts work
Any post in the Emergency & Safety category is reviewed by a moderator before it goes live — including posts from administrators. This is deliberate: it prevents an unverified emergency claim from reaching the whole campus instantly.
Once approved, a critical alert appears in the live ticker at the top of every page, bypasses topic preferences, and is sent on every channel each person has enabled.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to see alerts?
No. The public feed and emergency alerts are visible to everyone. You only need an account to choose specific topics, get notified by email/SMS, post updates, or comment.
What's the difference between a Student and Staff account?
Student accounts activate instantly once you confirm the code sent to your email (and phone, if required). Staff accounts are reviewed by an administrator first, since staff can usually post directly to the whole campus.
I turned on SMS but I'm not getting texts for everything — why?
SMS is deliberately reserved for the handful of things worth a paid text: your own alert going live, alerts targeted at your faculty, and critical emergencies. Everything else you're subscribed to still reaches you in-app and by email.
Can I report an incident without creating an account?
Yes. Use Report an incident — it goes straight to campus security and doesn't require logging in or giving your name.
How do I get a verification badge for my office or department?
Badges are granted by administrators to accounts that represent a genuine university office, department, or staff member. Contact your campus administrator to request one.
I forgot my password — what do I do?
Use Forgot password? on the log in screen — we'll email you a link to set a new one. It expires after an hour for security.
Why was my post held for review instead of going live right away?
Anything posted in the Emergency & Safety category — even from an administrator — is checked by a moderator first, so an unverified claim can never reach the whole campus unchecked. Other categories usually publish immediately depending on your account's permissions.
